The Kini monument for Ludwig II in Munich was ceremoniously inaugurated on June 13 and was defaced with paint by vandals just one week later. On the pedestal, the words “FCK KINI” and the number code “1312,” which stands for “All Cops Bastards,” are visible. The surrounding stones are also marred with graffiti.

The initiator of the monument, Dietmar Holzapfel, expressed his frustration to the Abendzeitung: “I am so frustrated. I worked for over twelve years to make this monument happen—and then it looks like this after just one week.” He is considering offering a reward: “Or we just leave it as is, to show people how sick our society is nowadays.”

Holzapfel emphasized that the pink Untersberg marble of the monument was specially impregnated to allow for easier cleaning. Building Commissioner Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer had assured at the inauguration that her department would ensure the protection and cleanliness of the monument.
